FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will I be able to enter the hypnotic state of mind?

A myth about hypnotherapy is that to be hypnotized you must have some special predispositions or a certain ability of the mind. This is an archaic belief that has been proven untrue. In reality, 99% of people can enter the hypnotic state easily, as we enter the Alpha level of mind naturally several times during the day, every time we daydream, use our imagination, or take on a task with intense concentration.

This natural state of the mind is enhanced and more focused during the hypnotherapy session. Because it is your decision to use hypnosis for self-improvement, your mind has already accepted the idea of Hypnotherapy and hypnosis.

Will I maintain my free will during hypnosis?

It is a complete myth and a very popular misconception that people surrender all control of themselves during hypnosis. In reality, the complete opposite happens. A person’s mind is fully aware, and people can pull themselves out of the trance-like state at any point during the session. You will maintain full control at will at all times during hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is not something imposed on people, but something they do for themselves. A hypnotist simply serves as a facilitator to guide them.

Will I reveal deep personal secrets against my will?

There’s a myth that hypnotherapy can be used to manipulate people to reveal facts about themselves that they ordinarily wouldn’t — that is completely false. Many people base their assumptions about hypnotism on stage acts but fail to take into account that stage hypnotists screen their volunteers to select those who are cooperative as well as responsive to stage hypnosis. Stage acts help create a myth about hypnosis which discourages people from seeking legitimate hypnotherapy.

During hypnotherapy sessions, people may learn things about themselves that they have previously forgotten or perhaps never consciously knew. This often assists them to discover a deeper understanding of actions, experiences and feelings that have been previously confusing to them. Clients reveal only what they are ready to learn about themselves during a hypnotherapy session. The mind is actually extremely conscious during these treatments, and the person is not asleep or unconscious. No one is ever forced to share anything against their will. Hypnosis is not an unconscious state of sleep. In fact, most people report having a heightened sense of awareness, concentration and focus, and can even hear more acutely during a session.

Is Hypnotherapy a 'mystical' practice?

Another myth about hypnotherapy is that it’s a mystical practice — or, at the other end of the spectrum, that it’s valid for use only as a treatment for phobias or smoking cessation.

Hypnotherapy is a clinical practice, used to treat a wide variety of mental, physical and emotional issues. With the assistance of a professionally trained hypnotherapist, people choose hypnotherapy as a powerful method to reach a trance-like state of heightened focus and concentration. Hypnotherapy is a proven professional practice for personal transformation and healing.

Hypnotherapy is based on many years of clinical research by famous psychologists such as Dr. Sigmund Freud and Dr. Carl Jung, and more recently, by Dr. Milton Erikson and Dr. John Kappas. It’s been supported by the British Medical Association since the 1800s, and the American Medical Association and British Psychological Society have officially supported hypnotherapy since the 1950s.

Do Hypnotherapists have “special powers”?

That is another myth that has been based on stage hypnosis shows that are used for entertainment purposes.

A hypnotherapist is someone who has been professionally trained and is practiced in the art and science of hypnosis and therapeutic healing modalities. The real gift lies in the client’s specific subconscious mind, incorporating a vast amount of dynamic personal history and valuable information, which leads to self-discovery and personal transformation.

Hypnotherapists are well educated and certified and many of them use hypnosis along with other healing modalities to help people understand the mind-body connection and how it can help them heal. Hypnotherapists are in fact the opposite of mind controllers, they actually act as guides and teach the clients to gain control of their own mind and thoughts.

Does Hypnotherapy work?

One of the most common myths about hypnotherapy is that there’s no proof that hypnotherapy works. Many respected psychoanalysts, both historical and present-day, have successfully used the practice of hypnotherapy in their work. Its effectiveness has been proven again and again, and a variety of medical and scientific organizations — including the American Medical Association, American Psychological Association, British Medical Association, and British Psychological Society — have independently endorsed hypnotherapy as a valid form of treatment.

Please remember that while alternative health protocols are beneficial, they should be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, traditional medical care.

Will I remember what happens to me during a Hypnotherapy session?

Another myth about hypnosis is that people lose consciousness and have amnesia after the session. A small percentage of people, who go into very deep levels of trance might forget some part of the session. However, majority of people clearly remember everything that occurs in hypnosis. Hypnosis is not an unconscious state of sleep. In fact, most people report having a heightened sense of awareness, concentration and focus, and can even hear more acutely during a session.

How fast will I see results?

While Hypnosis is a relatively quick method of making permanent improvements, there is no such thing as a one-time “Hypno-Miracle”! Every individual makes progress at his or her own rate. Be weary of those who make wild claims of overnight success. In my experience, usually a  minimum 2 sessions are required to ensure a permanent result when changing subconscious beliefs, and more sessions might be required to achieve a permanent result in some cases.

If you have a medical condition, please remember that while alternative health protocols are beneficial, they should be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, traditional medical care.

Are there any side-effects to Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is very safe and is in fact, a state of hyper-awareness. Everyone can naturally come out of the hypnotic state by opening their eyes, and stretching or speaking. There are no side effects, other than a feeling of physical and mental relaxation.
